OUR STORY

Here we are, We create our delightful treats in a 150 year old, civil war house constructed by a slave at the end of the civil war. The house was originally built on Freeman Hill behind the Confederate Prision known now as the only P.O.W. National Cemetery in the Nation. The house  was. moved here to its current location some 25 years ago and sat empty except by the interested visitors which came to Andersonville on the annual reinactment which takes place the 1st weekend in October. We still enjoy going outside to walk the dog walk to get to our kitchen. This is one of the only active summer kicthens left .Our heat comes from three fireplaces, one of which is a working brick oven, and we cool the house the old fashioned way, by opening the windows! We are located on eight acres of pecan, dogwood, and magnolia trees, all colored by beautiful floweriing plants.. The builder of our home would not sell the lock that was on the front door. The story is after numerous attempts to purchase the lock it was finally obtained at a purchase price which exceeded the price of the home. Turns out the lock was used by the original owners keeper while he was a slave to lock his shackles.  Once he was able to build his own home and lock it up, he used the same lock which was used on those shackles.  He was now able to use it for good rather than for evil. Pretty cool uhh.
